The 12th Doughnut
Duke is always picked last.
At Milo's Bakery, twelve fresh doughnuts line up every morning, each one hoping to be chosen first. There's frosting, sprinkles, and cream filling galore -- everything a customer could want. Everything, that is, except plain little Duke, who waits patiently at the end of the line, watching customer after customer choose eleven doughnuts and toss him in almost as an afterthought.
"No one eats the twelfth one anyway."
Duke can't understand why he's always overlooked. He tries to stand tall. He tries not to let it hurt. And even when a sprinkle-covered accident gives him a new sparkle, deep down he's still the same plain doughnut nobody wants first.
Then one morning, a little girl walks through the bakery door -- and everything changes.
The 12th Doughnut is a warm, rhyming picture book about patience, self-worth, and the quiet kind of hope that waits for the right person to come along. With playful illustrations and a gentle rhythm perfect for reading aloud, this story reminds children (and the grown-ups who love them) that being chosen isn't about being the flashiest -- it's about being seen for who you truly are.
Share Duke's story at bedtime, in the classroom, or any time your little one needs a reminder that they're worth the wait.
